How Two Doc’s Scaled Down to Achieve More: A Journey of Consolidation and Growth

I was just reflecting on how inconsistency can often creep into our lives and businesses. Whether it’s attending workshops, writing regular emails, or launching campaigns, we all have areas we wish we were more consistent in. That’s exactly why I wanted to share today’s conversation with you.

Today, I want to share with you a conversation I recently had with two extraordinary business owners and client of mine, Dr. Chris and Dr. Dane. They’ve been running New Age Family Chiropractic for years and have an incredible story to tell. I’ve had the privilege of working with them for close to two years, and in that time, they’ve built a thriving practice that’s broken the $200,000 monthly revenue mark multiple times. What sets them apart is their ability to take action quickly and effectively, and I believe their story holds some powerful lessons for anyone looking to scale their business—whether you’re just starting out or already running multiple locations.

Moving From Three Locations to One: A Bold Move
When I first met Chris and Dane, they were running what we jokingly called “two and a half” clinics. They had two main locations and a third that they were only at part-time. They were determined to scale up to four or five clinics, but like many Practice Owners, they were hitting roadblocks. Challenges like staffing, profitability, and maintaining consistency between locations were slowing them down.

After we started working together, something surprising happened. Instead of pushing to open more clinics, they decided to consolidate.

Yes Consolidate!

Instead of expanding to four or five locations, they reduced their business to one. It wasn’t an easy decision. As Dane shared, there was a lot of pride tied to running his own clinic, and the thought of giving that up felt like a failure at first. But they quickly realized that consolidating would actually lead to greater profitability, more efficiency, and better service for their patients.

The Power of Consolidation
Chris and Dane didn’t make this decision lightly. They had a realization during one of our coaching calls that scaling up didn’t necessarily mean opening more locations. In fact, consolidating their efforts into a single practice allowed them to focus more on the things that mattered—delivering quality care, building a strong team, and serving their community better.

Within six to eight weeks, they closed their additional locations and fully transitioned to one clinic. At first, profitability remained steady, but soon they started to see a significant upward trend. Where they once struggled to break $200,000 a month with three clinics, they now regularly hit $240,000 with just one. They even had a $60,000 day, something they had never achieved before.

What’s incredible about their story is that they learned firsthand that less can actually be more. By having just one clinic, they streamlined operations—one set of rent, one team, one set of overheads—and still managed to serve more patients and generate more revenue than ever before.

Lessons for Business Owners
For those of you running multiple locations or thinking about expanding, Chris and Dane’s story is a reminder that growth doesn’t always mean opening more offices or adding more services. Sometimes, consolidation allows you to focus on delivering a better experience for your customers while increasing your profitability.

As they’ve shown, scaling down doesn’t mean scaling back. It’s about being strategic and ensuring that your resources—whether they’re financial, time, or human—are being used in the most effective way. By focusing on one location, Chris and Dane have been able to build a practice that’s not only profitable but also sustainable, allowing them to take more time off, improve their team dynamics, and ultimately serve their patients better.

What’s Working for Them Now?
So, what’s been driving their success lately? A couple of things have really helped them grow:

Leveraging Time & Resources: By consolidating, they’ve been able to focus their time and energy on improving their systems. This includes better patient care, more attention to staff development, and a stronger overall business culture.

Improved Profitability: As mentioned earlier, their decision to focus on one location has skyrocketed their profitability. They’ve minimized overhead costs while maximizing their output. One location, when run well, can outperform multiple locations that are struggling with inefficiency.

Taking Quick Action: One of the reasons Christen and Dane have been so successful is their ability to take immediate action. After each coaching session, they implemented changes quickly and decisively. Their story is a great reminder that speed of execution can often make the difference between stagnation and growth.

A Final Thought
As you think about your own business, consider whether expansion always has to mean adding more locations or services. Sometimes, scaling down and focusing on optimizing what you already have can lead to bigger gains. Chris and Dane are living proof that focusing on one thing and doing it exceptionally can lead to extraordinary results.

If you’re currently running multiple locations or considering expansion, take a moment to reflect on their journey. Could consolidation or streamlining help you achieve more with less? Their success story proves that when you focus, simplify, and execute with purpose, amazing things can happen.
